Hitchhiker Wheel Upgrade

I have a 2003 HHII LS (345RLTG) that came with white painted spoke wheels. Living near the coast has started to take a toll on them with rust showing up.
Since I have decided to keep the RV for awhile, I would like to upgrade to aluminum spoke wheels. The existing wheels are 16" with an 8-bolt lug pattern. I believe they are 7" wide. I need to know the bolt pattern diameter and hub hole sizes. The factory service folks couldn't tell me.
Has anyone out there upgraded like this and/or know the correct wheel dimensions?

RE: $16000 off on new f-250

I know several people who bought the new F250 & 350' with the 6.4 diesel. All of them complain about the MPG - 10-12 or maybe a little better on the highway. Have you considered a late-model 6.0?

RE: Discover America dream

I have looked at lots of new 5ers but every time I come home to my 2003 RL345TG I like it even more! They even make the same model 6 years later...
Some campers at my park drove in with a brand-new 363 last Feb and gave me a tour. What a fantastic floor plan! I may upgrade to one myself. The only thing I'm not sure they offer is leather furniture, which I want in the next unit.
You can't go wrong, but you'll need at least a 1-ton dually to do the road work.

RE: Diesel Prices Coming Down?

Retired nuke ET,
Thanks - it's good to know someone else out there can see thru it all. I really think we need fewer reporters in the world, and that oil should not be treated so much as a commodity.
As far as I am concerned, there is no legitimate reason why crude has doubled in price in one year. The media (or Morgan Stanley?) throw out a new and higher number and a new target seems to be set for everyone to attain. It's almost like a competitive game.
I like your idea of the $50 target. If the press started circulating that story, I almost guarantee the speculators would panic and pull out of oil at an alarming rate for fear of losses. Prices would plummet... So who is to blame???

RE: Diesel Prices Coming Down?

I bought diesel in Texas for $4.49 last week - but as said earlier, crude hit $138+ Friday. The price will go up soon to reflect the crude jump.
What surprises me is how many PESSIMISTS are out there. Most people ASSUME the worst and when they talk it up and start to believe it, their bad dreams come true. If you want to believe this is doomsday, you will collectively believe it into happening.
Nobody knows for sure where we are going to end up with crude prices. In the short run, it looks like they will be up - in the long run...
Some say this is an adjustment, others say supply and demand, and still others believe it's the speculators, etc. Personally, I believe it's the speculators - they are the ones who ran the price of crude up over $16 last week. There IS NO shortage of crude! I also personally believe we have a bubble here (mostly greed)- and you may be happily surprised at how different things may be if it bursts!

RE: Hot water heater not hot enough...

Nezzo,
I had the same thing happen to mine - it was the bypass valve - almost completely closed and not allowing hot water to exit the tank. If you can feel your tank, and it's hot, I bet this is the problem.

RE: Crossroads cruiser

I ordered a Cruiser 3 years ago from RV Wholesalers and anxiously awaited for it to be manufactured and delivered. I took a week of vacation for the week after I was supposed to get it, and they assured me it was ready and would be delivered on time. BUT...the day came and no call, no RV. When I finally reached them 2 days later, they said they were waiting on a part and it would take several days. I canceled my order and got my money back.
I think they build a decent unit for the price, but I have heard of problems. But at some point many of them have problems.
I ended up making a big mistake and buying a new Forest River Wildcat. What a piece of junk! I will never buy an FR product again. After onhe year I traded it off (at great loss) and bought the right unit - a NuWa Hitchiker. I smile every time I see it!

RE: Supply and demmand my ...

I'm always amazed that when some event happens - like an attack on an oil pipeline in Nigeria - oil will go up say $2/bbl because the traders must think 'oh no, there's a shortage so it's now worth more. But so far two things seem to happen.
1) there is no shortage of fuel at the pumps after one of these 'events'.
2) the price never drops back down $2/bbl after the event has been resolved (if there ever was even a problem in the first place)
The dollar is weak, which causes the price to increase, and the traders are in the game big-time taking big profits. So far, we can't do much to fix the dollar until we fix the trade deficit, etc, but I think the traders should be taken out of the loop. Maybe the oil companies should be dealing DIRECTLY with oil producers and take the commodities aspect out of oil. After all, their chief function is to profit at the cost of ours and other economies.
As for Europeon oil being higher. there is a huge amount of tax applied to each litre sold there.

RE: Tow Haul Usage?

I travel on flat land and never use TH. It changes the feel of the truck so much I feel like I'm driving a tractor. Also, it doesn't shift gears until 2300-2400 rpm, which is over the point where the diesel has developed it's max torque. When I leave the trans in standard mode, I can make it shift at 2000 rpm. I can also manage to keep it in overdrive with my foot on most small hills.

RE: Supply and demmand my ...

My firm belief is that oil is so high is this:
Since the dollar is so weak, it takes more to buy oil from overseas
Traders are running the price up - every time they make a profit, it costs you and I more. It doesn't help ehen Goldman makes a prediction as they did today that the price will be $141/bbl by July. It just gives everyone a new target to shoot for.
Consumption... I see so many people blowing raw gas/diesel out of their tailpipes ( I have personally cut mine by 1/2 - it makes no sense to got to the store and burn a gallon of diesel to buy a loaf of bread!)
If things continue to increase out of control, the world is in for a big surprise. Too bad the fat cats in DC cannot and won't do their jobs. Many of them have been in office so long, you couldn't pry them out of their deep leather chairs!)
That's my 2 cents worth.

Toilet Seal Leak...

I have a Thetford Bravura toilet that does not always hold water when I refill it after use. I noticed there is a round black gasket at the bottom of the bowl that evidently seals the valve when it is closed after flushing.
Does anyone know if the gasket is a standard replacement part??? I would guess that if so, it would fix the problem if I installed a new one.

RE: Emergency Road Service

I have had GS for 2 years but have not used it. It is supposed to cover all of your household vehicles as well. They even do flats - and on my F350 it's not a very fun task!

RE: Dirty Diesel Fuel - Need Suggestions

Hey Everyone,
Appreciate all the input. I showed a sample of the fuel and debris to one of the partners who own the campground I'm in and he said it was not unusual ti pick up this sort of stuff in diesel fuel. He was a long haul trucker by trade. He said that basically if you could see the stuff - as is the case - the filter will pick it up.
It's a bit spooky to think what you are pumping out of the underground tanks!
I was going to show the stuff to my local Ford shop, but decided not to - figured they may try to talk me out of my wallet in repair bills that are probably not necessary.
Thanks Again!

Dirty Diesel Fuel - Need Suggestions

I have 2 5-gallon plastic containers that I filled up with diesel about 6 months ago and decided that it was time to use it or dispose of it. The cans were brand new and it was the first time I ever used them.
I decided to use one can in each of thenext two fillups. I poured the 1st in my truck's almost-full tank but the last 1/2 gallon or so would not leave the can due to the way it is designed. I decided that was OK - not much wasted.
When I went to screw the cap back on, I noticed that there was a considerable amount of fine black debris at the bottom of the remainder of the fuel! I don't know how much got into my can and don't even know what it is...
I have read about algae, but it doesn't grow where the sun doesn't shine. I can't imagine the can had all that debris in it when I filled it up. Does anybody have any idea of what it could be??? Also, in theory shouldn't my filters pick it up and protect the injectors? I'm now a little worried I'll be going down the road and everything will choke up.

F350 DRW - 410 or 373 rear end???

I just traded an F250 SRW (2004) PSD for an F350 DRW PSD (2006). The SRW had a 373 rear-end, and the F350 has a 410...I can already see a drop of 2+ MPG with the new truck. I do really like the F350, but with diesel prices as they are, I wonder if trading was such a good idea.
Has anyone ever swapped rear-end gears - or had a dealer do it? Does it make sense? For pulling, I think the 373 would be fine - as my last one had no problem.
Any input would be appreciated.

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

I wouldn't blame it all on the oil companies. There are several reasons prices are up:
1) oil is not traded as a commodity - so lots of money is made before it even gets to a refinery.
2) the US dollar is very weak so countries we import crude from want more $'s per barrel.
3) people still fail to reduce their driving. If everyone would drive 10% less, it would have a big impact on the price. But of course, so many folks would be 'inconvenienced'.
4) lack of refining capability in the US.
Yes - the big oil companies are making big profits - but it's not their fault.

RE: The Birds!!!!

I had the same problem last summer - a nest with baby birds in it built in my pin box. I had to move, so I relocated the nest in some bushes. I doubt the little ones made it. I'm now in a place where that doesn't seem to happen, but I would probably put some sort of screen over the opening if needed. Just be sure it's secure so when you travel it doesn't fall out and get caught up in your tires...
